Christian Debt Management

Christian debt management I find to be a strange term. Why you may ask? Let me first state that I am a Christian and believe Jesus Christ died for my sins. Of course, what in the world does that have do with debt?

It’s taken me a long time to get to the point where the concept of carrying debt of any kind has truly begun to bother me. As a Christian should I be different?

If you were to stop almost anyone on the street and ask what makes a Christian different most would say something along the line of God, doing good and maybe mention lifestyle.

Crowd of people

Now lifestyle covers more than doing things right. It’s about doing things RIGHT and separating ourselves from being committed to someone or something beyond our commitment to God.

If you look across the landscape of America are Christians different?

  • Do they have less heart attacks?
  • Do they battle cancer less?
  • Do they file bankruptcy less?
  • Are they less overweight?
  • Do they face divorce less?
  • Do they experience financial crisis less?
  • Are Christians credit scores higher or lower than non-christians?

I cannot give any facts one way of the other, but I tend to believe that many Christians live their daily life like the rest of America. Eating too much and spending too much! Then they ask “God to Bless them.” God does bless them. God’s word says… in Galatians 6:7- “…you reap what you sow."

Christians and America are getting exactly what they are sowing!

Basically they “believe the Bible” but don’t want to follow the principles.

Christians need to get serious about the debt they carry and the way they spend their money… or is it their money? Christians need to look at being different from the rest of the world in the way they manage their finances. They need to seek the steps and put into action methods for relief from the reality of what debt makes them – a slave!

Being in debt means you are not in control of your money which means someone or something is controlling you and not God!

This is not to say Christians should live in poverty and not spend. It’s the debt which is slowly ripping away the fabric of homes. Parents in their desire to have more stuff keeps them working away to pay the man! The problem is “the man” is debt and interest stealing life away.

I’m not throwing stones – just asking questions and continue to work at living debt free.
